A good day for cutting wood.

Friday was another warm day--up into the 80's warm! I was even warmer since I spent most of the morning running the chainsaw. I made good progress cutting up the logs on the beach. These logs were left over from last year when some unusual conditions brought an extraordinary amount of driftwood onto our beach. We will have wood for beach fires for years to come! The before and after pictures of the west end of the beach tell the story best. Inevitably I hit a few rocks while cutting the driftwood--some of the logs had rocks embedded into the soft wood. By the time I got to the biggest logs the saw was cutting much slower, so I deferred the rest until I could get it sharpened. I have tried sharpening the saw myself, but I can never do as good as the service guys at Ace Hardware in Polson.

At the end of the hot day I rewarded myself with a refreshing swim (the water is up to 56 degrees already!). After the swim I was invited over for brauts and beer by Steve (our neighbor to the west). It was still warm enough to be comfortable sitting outside with damp swim trunks, enjoying the food and a nice red wine.
