Kegerator Project

The kegerator is now functional. For several years I have been enjoying the fine local microbrews available from Glacier Brewing in Polson. But half-gallon growlers and Tap-a-Draft six liter bottles always seemed to run out too fast. This year, with the extra time and motivation I was able to put together a kegerator.

The refrigerator was from Craig's List (thanks Craig!) and the essential parts were from Main Street Homebrew Supply Company in Hillsboro, OR. The good folks at Main Brew have a kit specifically designed for converting a refrigerator into a kegerator. They also have very specific step-by-step instructions that make this a breeze. However I did make one small mistake: I drilled the hole a bit too high--if you open the freezer door it will flip open the tap! I will be looking around for a tap handle that is a quarter-inch shorter.

Glacier Brewing sells their beer in both Pub Keg (5 gallon) and half-barrel (15.5 gallon) sizes. The Pub Keg is a nice size for occasional use. The first beer was GBC's Slurry Bomber Stout, a very nice dark and foamy pour.

On Thursday evening Ken, Sandy and Ed came over to have the first samples from the new system--a rousing success! And environmentally sound, since Lake County has no provision for glass recycling.

  1. Cheers!
In all honesty, I think you should just redrill the hole. Especially when you decide that 1/6 barrel is not nearly as good as 2 or 3/6 barrels. See you soon! Rb
