Park it here!

The title of this one could have been "Long Time, No Blog". I misplaced my camera Friday and without pictures I had no words. At least that is my excuse. I found my camera this morning and so we continue.

The big thing that has been occupying my time the last few days has been the lower parking area. The lower parking area is not much more than a wide spot in the loop road that serves as our driveway. The goal was to level and define the area to allow four (maybe five) vehicles to park without blocking the loop.

First I skidded logs down from the log pile to define the edge of the parking area. Then I ordered a truckload of "3-inch minus road mix" from Knife River in Polson.

All of this I got done on Friday, June 5. On Saturday I woke up to stormy weather: high wind, rain and temperatures in the low 40's. I scratched the idea of working more on the road and caught up on some small projects around the cabin, shopping in Polson, etc.

Sunday improved enough so that I dropped in on the cousins to borrow Ed's little tractor (setup with a front-end loader and a scraper blade on the 3-point hitch). But then the weather started to close in again and I found other projects to occupy my time. Monday dawned as another wet day, enough to finally send me into the laundromat in Polson for the first laundry day of my sabbatical (if I'd have had my camera it might have merited its own blog entry).

However, when I returned from town the weather was improving and I jumped on the tractor and started moving gravel. It took a bit to get familiar with the quirks of the little machine, but a couple of hours later the job was done. Scratch another one off the list!
